I liked the movie, but the absolute funniest part was during the trailers: Tirenne Send a noteboard - 25/03/2012 11:13:34 PM
There was this interesting trailer that was apparently about Abe Lincoln being a BAMF before he was president. The audience seemed willing to go along with it until the title came up. Abraham Lincoln : VAMPIRE HUNTER!!! and the whole theater started cracking up. The title is pretty ridiculous though, you have to admit.

About the Hunger Games, I went it to it prepared to hate Jennifer Lawrence's portrayal of Katniss, because I thought she was awful as Mystique in First Class. Surprisingly, I thought she did a great job. A few minutes in, and I didn't even notice JL, it was all Katniss.

I didn't find the Game itself to be a letdown, but that might be because I've read the books and knew what to expect. (minor spoiler for the book: I was glad they cut out the part about Katniss' dehydration, that was painful to read and it would have messed up the pace I think.)

And though the ending seems to take the "easy way out", in the later books it's clear that Katniss' one up-ing the Capitol is a catalyst for the rest of the plot. Also, part of what doesn't translate to the screen is the exhaustion you (as a reader) feel at the end and the relief, when you realize that your protagonists are going to get a reprieve, because they honestly have gone through a lot of sh!t.

YA has become huge in the past 5-10 years, thanks to Harry Potter and others. - 25/03/2012 08:58:58 PM 623 Views

I liked it, but at times, I felt like I was a citizen of Panem, watching kids get killed on screen. - 27/03/2012 08:07:48 PM 610 Views
Especially since Katniss is described as olive skinned herself. - 27/03/2012 09:25:46 PM 605 Views
