Say what you will (most of it fairly) about Joss Whedon, I don't think there are many writer/director combo people I'd trust more with putting together one single big entertaining creation, the ones where he can focus all his energies like his big episodes of Buffy/Angel, the endgame of Dollhouse, much of Firefly, and of course Serenity. Whatever his issues, he knows how to hit the high notes.
