Well, I don't know how this is my fault, but I will say I agree, and for more than the relationships. Why do we always need origin stories? I mean, Batman Begins appears to be the mere start of a larger story arc, and was specifically titled BEGINS. Before that, we had Tim Burton's Batman, which was considered one of the best superhero films around, and started with his career well underway. But why do we need so much footage of Spiderman as a nerd and sucking at life? Why do we need to see how he brought all the elements of the Spiderman mythos together, especially when most movie-goers are not going to notice those details, because they are not familiar with the source material?

We didn't need to see the Colonial Marines from Aliens go to boot camp, or Maverick and Ice Man in flight school, or Murtaugh and Riggs in the police academy. Why does all this stuff have to be in there for superhero movies? Those movies are about people with powers. Training stories are for character development.

There is also the fact that regardless of the time constraints on superheroics and other details of real life, we are not going to identify with them anyway, because we can see all the ways life is easier with the superpowers. Sure, it's frustrating to not pulverize all the idiots you run into on the street everyday, but most of us manage fine without doing that, AND we don't have superpowers to give us the assurance we don't need health insurance or need to worry about burning buildings or traffic accidents or all those other little problems. Most of the daily life drama that these superheroes have, like the relationship issues, are of their own making and their attempts to have their cake and eat it too.

Spiderman could exploit his powers for profit, AND still conceal his identity, he simply chooses not to, aside from his brief attempt on the underground wrestling circuit. To try to make him relate to the audience by struggling with an asshole boss is insulting to the audience, because he is completely neglecting a whole host of options not available to us. We're not thinking, "poor Spiderman, I sympathize because I have the same problems as you, and I don't carry the burden of fighting crime too." We are thinking, "Get bent, Spiderman. Life is so hard when you can travel in three-dimensions, and suddenly your flesh is heir to many, many fewer of the 'thousand natural shocks' the rest of us have to put up with."

All motion picture entertainment is essentially vicarious gratification. That's why porn determined the winner of the VHS/Beta war. You aren't going to make any deep statements or challenge anyone's intellect with your superhero movie, the wider-audience-attracting PG-13 rating excludes humor, sex & gore, so give us our action and violence and end this charade of trying to portray a multidimensional person in under 2 hours between the visual effects.

Also, Spiderman, get a brain already. Uncle Ben's death was not remotely your fault. Your entire lifelong quest is because you are a moron with no grasp of causality. If you REALLY wanted to help, you'd coordinate with law enforcement, so those people you physically assault on the street might actually, IDK, go to jail or something! What the hell is a cop supposed to do when he finds a guy tied up in a cocoon? "Oh, this looks like an untrustworthy fellow! Off to jail for life with you!" BATMAN works with the cops. Superman rescues people (otherwise the same goes for him - if he really turned guys into the police, half his life would be taken up with witness statements and court testimony). Iron Man and Thor DON'T FIGHT CRIME! The Punisher and Ghost Rider don't leave criminals alive. Spiderman's life sucks, not because he's decent or moral or any other reason than his own stupidity, and trying to garner sympathy for him is insulting.
