The thing I'm not sure about ... Nate Send a noteboard - 03/05/2012 04:13:18 PM
... is why you think we're supposed to believe that he's an equally powerful contributor to the team. Maybe the promotional stuff makes it seem that way to you? I'm not sure.

I'm not an Avengers expert, but from what little I know about the movie, I don't think he's at all supposed to be represented as equally powerful to Thor or Iron Man or Captain America or the Hulk. Like you say, he's just a normal guy with a bow and arrow, of course he's not a power-match for the big dogs, even if he is really, really good with that bow and arrow.

But he's not supposed to be, and I can't say for sure but I'd be awfully surprised if he was shown to be in the movie. As far as I know he's just a non-powered part of the non-powered SHIELD organization who has a very specific skill that will probably come in handy at some point, and who has other skills related to secret agent skullduggery that will also be critical to the overall mission and would be the sort of thing that Thor or Iron Man or Captain America or the Hulk would not do. They handle the heavy stuff. People like Hawkeye or Black Widow do the dirty work and use their skills in specific situations (likely often tailored for them by the writer, I can't deny that much).

So yeah. It's absolutely true that Hawkeye is not as powerful as the super-powered members of the team. But I don't really feel your complaint because I don't think he's supposed to be. And there's no reason he shouldn't be part of the team, just because he doesn't have powers, so long as he's got the courage, experience, willingness to be a smaller player, and ability to do dirty work and use his skills to the team's advantage whenever possible.

But all that said, it's the movie itself that will tell the tale I guess. My only regret is that I won't be able to watch it until May 13 or 14. But I'll be watching it in Texas with CNRedDragon, so that makes up for it.
