Cabin in the woods ironclad Send a noteboard - 14/09/2012 11:58:44 AM

A little late to the party but for some odd reason we had to wait a while for this movie to be released here. And what can I say? The wait was worth it.
Let's be honest, the genre of the horror slasher including teenagers in the woods has been filmed to death in the last ten years. The trailer to this film, co-written by Joss Whedon and directed by Drew "Cloverfield" Goddard, already suggested that there is more to find here than the usual ingredients.

The movie doesn't even try to hide that there is another dimension to the trip five friends are taking to the cabin by introducing a few obviously unrelated characters in a seemingly random location right from the start. How those two unconnected plot threads fit together is the big surprise of the film and so far out there that you can't and more importantly shouldn't even begin to spoil it. The less you more about this film, the better.

Fact is, the film takes the genre's stereotypes and throws them into a bloody mixer. The result is new, exciting, funny, scary, gory and offers nothing less than the craziest second half a movie had for a very long time. That may be a shock to those who enjoy their slasher horrors within the given paths, everyone else should enjoy how fresh this feels, how much fun was had creating this and how the film simply refuses to take itself too seriously a midst all the gore.

An insane joyride and a highlight of the year! Go rent it now with friends and have a blast.
