They could have made the exact same movie and just changed his name and I would have liked it random thoughts Send a noteboard - 23/03/2013 03:58:01 PM

Some people don't like Bond movies and that is cool. My son is 25 and he doesn't like Bond but that is because all of the Bond movies they made when he was in his teens sucked. The Bond movies from the 60s and 70s and even the early 80s may seem cheesy and over the top compared to today's action flicks but look at the other action movies that were out back then and Bond holds up pretty well. They were great movies for the genre and time they were made in.

Sometimes a reboot makes sense when it is something that is dead but still iconic like Battlestar Galactica or Doctor Who but the Bonds films were not dead, they had just needed a better Bond and better writing.

The series had grown stale and needed to be updated but it should have still been a Bond movie. He still needs to be an international playboy with really cools toys and a stream of gorgeous but temporary women and he doesn't drink Heineken, they might as well have made him American or even worse French. Without those things it simply isn't a Bond movie. They could have made the exact same movie, removed the Bond references and no one would have accused them of copying Bond. You are supposed to want to be Bond not feel sorry for his tortured soul.
More to the point the people who never liked Bond could still have their movie but those of us grew with James Bond could still have real Bond movies. The studios might have made even more if they had made both movies instead of just whoring out a 50 year old franchise because reboots are all the rage. I would probably even have and enjoyed both movies.
