For about a year now, by wife and I have had no cable account, or DirectTV, etc. We beefed up a slightly older desktop with a cheap graphics card and another gig of ram, and bought the cables to hook it up to our TV. Simple and free. We use it to watch all the shows that are available for free on the internet through Hulu.com and a few other sites. We actually like this way more, because we can watch it when we want to, and we don't have to pay for a thing.

The only downside to this is that we don't have sports anymore. I've just had to get a social life and head to a friend's house to watch the game.
