And I agree with you, EXCEPT that I liked it better than the other two. I might have finally managed to reign in my expectations, but it seemed that maybe I didn't have to try as hard in this one. Most of the nonsense with Legolas happened in the last quarter of the movie, so the rest wasn't as bad as I feared.
I don't understand the Billy Connolly-as-Dain creation. Why. And the slow-mo headbutting did nothing for me, as you can imagine, BUT I would really like a battle pig and a battle goat.
Especially a goat that is apparently so portable that it appears in full goat-barding in the middle of the battlefield with no hint of where it came from.
This film we saw people riding on hyena-wolves, a stag, a pig, goats, bats, eagles, trolls and probably worms (I am assuming - otherwise how did they get out of the way so quickly and imperceptibly for the orcs to use their holes? ). I think there were maybe four or five people on horseback in the entire film. When Bilbo & Gandalf walked passed the cows on the way home, I actually yelled "Don't try riding them, you're almost there!" Only with more obscenities than my seven and a half year old niece should have heard in a movie theater. Oh well.
