Also, I fail to see how the change we got affects the tone, theme or social commentary of the content.
And yes, I did read the cuttings, but to me the squid feels like this weird tangent that doesn't connect easily to the main plot. Much like the pirate comic pieces, which are IMO the weakest part of the story.
Besides, it's a long long leap from kidnapped creatives to giant squid and there's no indication that's where it's headed so I still see it as out of nowhere.
