How much skin does she show? *NM* Dark Knight Send a noteboard - 19/01/2010 02:28:55 PM
I expect it will be available on ITunes or somehow, not counting illegal methods, but it certainly has my attention.

When I heard of it and that it was from Rob Tapert and the usual culprits, my first thought was that Raimi's crew realized they screwed the pooch on Seeker and decided to give fantasy another shot sooner rather than later. I've only watch a little of the Goodkind-inspired series, but the two eps I've seen of Spartacus were more entertaining.

I've seen screeners of the first two eps, and I'd describe it as 300 meets Rome, just as they're marketing it. The blood/violence is stylized (i.e. over-the-top), the sex is prevalent, and the cast includes several notables (namely Lucy Lawless, who is promoting the fact she shows skin; John Hannah, the brother in the Mummy movies; the messenger guy from 300; the guy who played the leader of the elves at Helm's Deep in Two Towers).

For those who worry if it will last, Starz renewed it for a second season already (pilot airs this week, mind you), so it'll be around for a bit, at least.

Basic intro to the plot: Soldier defies Rome, becomes Gladiator, epic violence and heroism follow.

It's not Shakespeare, but for a fan of 300, sword and sandal stuff, or any of the actors, it's worth tuning in. Assuming the blood and nudity doesn't bother you. The amount of promotion of the fact that Lawless shows skin in it makes it clear that they're marketing to that crowd as much as possible, so it's likely to be a major trend in the series.
Formerly Mat Bloody Cauthon on Wotmania, blessed be its name

Spartacus: Blood and Sand starts this week...on Starz...but who's going to watch? - 19/01/2010 12:07:46 AM 664 Views
It sounds cool ... too bad I only have basic cable. - 19/01/2010 01:15:54 AM 488 Views
Rome and 300 really shouldn't ever be put in the same sentence. - 19/01/2010 01:20:16 AM 493 Views
You are mistaken. Both films/shows were close to their source material.. - 19/01/2010 02:29:00 AM 507 Views
I am not mistaken. The assumption that the source material is correct is inane. - 19/01/2010 05:23:20 AM 588 Views
The source of 300 is the graphic novel, not history - 19/01/2010 11:35:59 AM 532 Views
That was such a stupid potential argument that I gave him the benefit of the doubt and discarded it. - 20/01/2010 04:17:10 AM 477 Views
Why are you guys getting so worked up about this? - 20/01/2010 11:37:53 AM 476 Views
