When they said "Why no Shannon? Or Ana Lucia? Or Libby?" I was thinking that the answer was obvious. They intentionally wrote Ana Lucia and Libby out of the series because they were mad at the actresses who play them for getting arrested for drunk driving in Hawaii during filming (which is stupid, because a person's criminal acts have nothing to do with the quality of acting; the only effect would be that any jail time would impair the actor's ability to show up for work). They probably had a similar tiff with the actress who played Shannon.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
