Are you saying then that there's not a difference between White Americans and Asian Americans? That doesn't seem right to me. I mean yeah, we're all Americans, but there's something to be said for respecting and celebrating cultural differences, including a person's appearance. You can't just gloss over that and pretend like it doesn't exist. "American" shouldn't automatically equal "White."
Keep in mind that it's an American show made by an American network with characters who all speak English with an American accent. It's nominally set in Asia, but don't kid yourself about it being an Asian show. Shyamalan really hasn't changed anything by casting whites. We didn't go from Asian characters to Caucasian characters, we just went with a different shade of "American."
