to call Avatar a bad movie because it's unoriginal, you better be decrying all of them.
And a "magical sentient weeping willow" that speaks english via a face that seems to magically be on the tree is entirely different than a weeping willow that has a biochemical connection with other trees on the planet and can accept a biochemical connection with the other biochemically telepathic creatures on the planet.
Seriously. No one is saying Avatar's plot was all shiny and new. But it is NOT just a Pocahontas with dragons. Just because you can cross out words in a paper about a book and replace them to make it sound like another book does not mean the stories are the same. You can do that with probably any fantasy stories if you're clever enough about it.
