IIRC his exact phrasing was something like, "You could be forgiven for thinking 'The Wire' was just another cop-show, but you'd be so wrong that you might as well throw yourself into a great big bloody bin!"
Needless to say, after that I had to watch it. And it became one of, if not my absolute favourite show.
