I mean, I'm not saying there are tons of people completely fluent in multiple languages. But I would think that particularly in such a central country as Germany, a good handful of that age group would at least have a basic "gist" of the surrounding languages. Compared to the US, at least.

I'm not saying it's the norm, but I certainly don't find it surprising in the slightest that a German can speak English and French as well. That's just the impression I've had, though, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :)


And you'd be surprised how many people here suck at just learning one foreign language :P
