the Greatness of Out of Gas is that you see the characters OUT of character. The combination of then and now works best if you already have a firm grip of when "now" is.

Serenity was supposed to be the pilot, but Fox refused to use it as a pilot and so Train Job had to be written.


And Train Job is by far the worst episode of the series, which is kind of understandable as it was written over one weekend with much studio interference.
