(finally saw the movie today)

Personally I felt the story truly needed for casting Zeus as a big arrogant bad guy who saw humans as beneath him. That and Perseus saying screw you gods, men don't need to worship you or else they suffer (yet at the same time not being arrogant to consider yourself above gods such as Andromeda family).

That and they truly needed to make Perseus a little more bad ass in his fight scenes, he is a demigod after all; he should be above normal mortal men, only the supernatural stand a chance against him..
