Utterly wrong, but i'll throw it in anyway....

Tam's sword? The one he used to "kill" Ba'alzamon above Falme? Suppose some Domani found the "blade of the Lord Dragon" and kept it, or even that a magic piece of unbreakable sword fell from the sky? It was supposedly melted by Ba'alzamon, but what if it was only part of the blade in the middle, and that the majority of it survived, intact, and was thrown a few hundred miles? Utterly wrong, but it's the only sword I can think of that Rand would recognise on his own.

Was it just the scabbard or a new sword too? *NM*

Good question, I'm not sure, tho if I had to guess I'd say just the scabbard *NM*

I'd bet it's answered in the prologue.

My thoughts exactly. The sword is the only part that makes sense as coming from the Prologue. *NM*

Hmmm... not Rhuidean - I'm betting the farm on it being Guaire Amalasan's scabbard

I thought the great sword means it is a very long two-handed sword.
