And yet I wonder Comet Sedai Send a noteboard - 04/05/2010 02:16:59 AM
when Gawyn participated in the Egwene rescue.

It was something like, Gawyn would either try to save Egwene or ignore her, one of those would save her life and one would break her neck?

I really, really hope her neck gets broken (albeit only if there's someone who can step into her place unquestioned- I have no desire to sit through another Tower civil war)

Thing is, what choice did Gawyn make that prevented Egwene from being killed? Leaving the Younglings? She wasn't in danger of being killed, especially with Elaida being carried off by the Seanchan, and Gawyn had to part in the that. No one else believed her to be a Darkfriend at that point. Gawyn may have helped mobilize/galvanize the rebels to move in, and while it may be true that that helped against the Seanchan, were Egwene re-captured by the Seanchan, again, she wouldn't have been killed. She'd have been leashed.

I wonder if the choice in question is when he decided to allow Siuan and Leane to escape with Min. Imagine what would have happened to Egwene as the figurehead Amyrlin without Siuan's and Leane's support and guidance. Imagine what she would have done had Siuan's Gawyn-enabled escape hadn't led Siuan to Gareth Brynn, which led to his eventual decision to side with Egwene's Aes Sedai?

Perhaps that was the decision. One question though, which is the lynchpin: when did Egwene have that vision of Gawyn? Pre-Siuan rescue or after? If after, then my theory doesn't work. If after, then perhaps it will be related to his (eventual) decision *not* to attack/kill Rand.

So, what was that prophecy about Gawyn either saving Egwene or breaking her neck? - 03/05/2010 05:05:47 PM 957 Views
The propecy probably got fulfilled in TGS - 03/05/2010 05:08:54 PM 595 Views

I believe she had the dream after she went to Salidar - 04/05/2010 03:58:22 AM 341 Views
No, that was Siuan. She had to convince Bryne first, and Gawyn came along, too. *NM* - 04/05/2010 06:59:58 PM 123 Views
That might make sense if that had been what the prophecy said. - 04/05/2010 04:29:04 AM 498 Views
Wasn't there something else, though? Like, Gawyn closing a door on her, or looking away... - 04/05/2010 06:29:25 AM 325 Views
That was a dream of Egwene's - 04/05/2010 06:52:45 AM 360 Views
I really hope so, as well. I think Gawyn will see Rand "die", though. - 04/05/2010 06:37:45 PM 298 Views
