Re: Did the LTT soul exist/reside in TAR as a Hero of the Horn ...

The fact that Hawkwing referred to him as "Lews Therin", rather than (say) a previous incarnation's name, may suggest that Hawkwing mingled with LTT's soul in TAR during the time I'm asking about, but I don't think it's conclusive evidence of that.
Considering that Jordan's explanation that in between incarnations the Heroes in TAR use the name (and appearance based on Gaidal and Birgitte, but that Jordan didn't say for sure) of their last incarnation when they interact was directly in reference to Lews Therin, and the fact Hawkwing (and later Birgitte) considered Rand as Lews Therin, I'd say it's conclusive evidence that LTT spent his "death" waiting in TAR as would be usual for this soul.
If it's the 2nd option, does it imply that LTT was mad with grief (like the voice in Rand's head is) the entire time he was in TAR, before the reincarnation? He couldn't have been much fun to hang out with, if so.
Well... I think given his likely background the Dragon soul is usually not much fun to hang with in TAR (for that matter, Hawkwing and Cain didn't seem so much fun either...) but it's really hard to tell how the Dragon was in TAR after the WOS. Plagued by LTT's gried? It's hard to tell. Don't forget, his life and personality would have merged with all his previous incarnations to form a different whole. "Lews Therin" didn't necessarily dominated the Heroes persona, and his recent horror stories may be somewhat relative in comparison to the other horrors in his past, and the victories... He would also be conscious of his role and purpose as Hero while in TAR. No doubt he suffered about Ilyena, but I don't think he was insane with grief or half-mad the way the LTT personna in touch with Rand was.
Rand wasn't "in contact" with the Dragon soul of TAR at any point - the LTT in his head had no conscience he was a Hero or memory of his passage in TAR. Whether Rand reconstructed a LTT persona from memories that leaked through a barrier attacked by the Taint (and I tend to think that's what it was) or whether the personality was "real" and conscious, that was strictly LTT, not the Dragon soul with a myriad of lives. The only moment Rand/LTT seemed to be conscious of his past lives was when he was struck with that epiphany about love on Dragonmount.
IMO, the memories (incl. experience, personality etc.) of LTT in Rand's head were real, but I tend to think the "communications" were not. I think this was Rand's schizophrenia. He made up a Voice, because he couldn't cope with the fact he was LTT. He was Rand, the Dragon Reborn, sane and sound, and all the rest (incl. leaked memories and so on) he made to be the raving mad monster and kinslayer LTT. The fact the "voice" contradicted him and inteferred on its own, even tried to convince Rand sometimes or to take over his control, is often how schizophrenics describe their "voices".

LTT was close to perfect, and he barely managed to eke out a draw with the Shadow.
