Unrealistic and unsympathetic for the most part

I've always had an issue with his character, and it really has more to do with him being written to be perfect but with zero humanity or characterization.
I tend to like characters that are believable in their humanity, and am perfectly willing to believe that one can be a genius in multiple areas, but he really is not present in the story at all, and it's impossible for me to call him a character. As far as we now know, Rand was both recalling memories from his past life seen through the filter of madness as well as constructing an alternate personality.
Talking about him seems more like referring to a mythological figure like Jesus, who can be invested with any characteristic due to extreme of time separating the real man from the events that spawned his death cult.

I thought that was supposed to be left up to the reader to decide.

LTT was close to perfect, and he barely managed to eke out a draw with the Shadow.

Bitter is too strong a word. More "conditioned" to search for character flaws in literature...
