I don't think Red Eagle were entirely blameless, but I think people jumped on Red Eagle and blamed them 100% due to the unfortunate timing of NEW SPRING ballsing up at the same time Robert Jordan expressed displeasure with them.

Even when the Dabel Bros were keeping up their part of the bargin in the early issues of the comic, it was impossible to find it anywhere except at the RE site. I live in NYC and even place like Forbidden Planet couldn't get it for me. Red Eagle totally blew the distribution of it. So yeah, Dabel Bros weren't on the up and up but at the same time Red Eagle was massively inept.
