and how the eye didn't really accomplish much i've been wondering for some time if it's sole purpose was to safely force rand to his maximum potential right off the bat.
i dont recall ever hearing him saying or thinking about becoming stronger at some point like we do with many the other channelers as their strength grows.
We have, in TFH.
channeling as he had done every night since leaving Rhuidean, he set wards around the entire encampment, not only what was in the pass but every tent in the hills below as well, and on the slopes of the mountains. He needed the angreal to set wardings so large, but only just. He had thought that he was strong before, but Asmodean’s teachings were making him stronger
The Eye did not force Rand to his maximum strength, it may however have given him a boost, even if that boost was not sufficient to push him to maximum strength. But really, shaving even a single year from the time Rand needs to reach full strength is significant given the time constraints he is under.
Rand's two sides together - is the TGS scene the key to victory? As a man who uses a -sedai handle
