The Embassies idea from earlier in the thread (daurius) would NEVER happen. First of all many countries don't have Aes Sedai advisers and would resent a small Embassy forcing themselves upon them. It violates custom to interfere with a Sister's business, and making many dozen Aes Sedai go live away from the tower as embassies would likely be viewed that way.

Many countries simply have AS Advisers on the DL. Look at Berelain. She hid Annoura and I'm sure other than Tear and Amadicia the others had them at least from time to time. We know at least 7 nations had them:

Andor
Cairhien
Shienar
Kandor
Arafel
Saldaea
Mayene

I would be surprised if Illian, Arad Domon and Tarabon did not given the number of times we've heard about AS negotiating treaties involving these countries. Only Amadicia, Far Madding and Tear seem truly against having AS Advisers. Ghealdan, Murandy and Altara seem non-hostile, but it's hard to say for sure. Certainly some of these nations would invite AS presence in if they saw some potential political gain over a rival nation.

But it would have to start out slowly. Take Andor as a starting point. Use AS to help Elayne build schools and hospitals with well educated healers throughout the kingdom. Once the idea takes root and people realize that the AS aren't there to put political pressure on the Queen other nations would eventually see the obvious benefits of what comes with the AS.

Of course the entire concept rides on an fundamental change in AS mentality (at least as they are now)... they would have to actually live up to the title "Servants of All". Maybe with Egwene's open novice rolls that will happen sooner than later. In 50 years half the Tower will be new women, and in 100 the new mentality will be far more pervasive than were they are today. Given how quickly Egwene found over 1000 new novices, it will be no time until AS numbers swell into the 10s of thousands.

In New Spring we read that there hadn't been any Aes Sedai queens in over a thousand years and the ones before that were usually assassinated very early in their reign. Elayne is the first Aes Sedai to claim a throne in a thousand years, and the only reason she has been successful thus far is because she was also BORN to rule that country. I think, using this as a basis for reasoning, that if the Aes Sedai tried to put that much influence into every country, openly, they would meet with a LOT of "accidents".

Possible, but these women also were after personal (and Tower)gain. The key to success here is the schools/hospitals/libraries. These are all things that would bring tangible benefit to the communities for hundreds of miles around them. Few will take kindly to "accidents" killing the doctors and teachers.

They would also never consider training girls outside of the White Tower. Splitting up the female channeling community in that way would effectively destroy all Aes Sedai standing. The only thing that sets them so high in the world is their united front, as a source of serenity and stability, a source of power and control. And mystery. If they split up all over the world and trained their own girls, they would no longer be a united front. They would cease to be what they are, and in a thousand years would probably find themselves in a situation very like the damane of Seanchan.

This part of my thoughts was about vetting women early on. It's an easier method of giving a woman a year of education, see if she's a suitable candidate then sending her to the Tower once she's ready to be more than a village woman. The centralization of training would still be in TV. I'm not suggesting a woman could go to Caemlyn and train for 20 years there and be raised to AS. She would spend time in a set curriculum designed to prepare her for her more intense Tower training. Later I'd send those Accepted, who had likely been in the Tower for a decade of training, who are close to being raised (think Theodrin/Faolain) out on a field test type situation. Moving through various cities and learning the ins-and-outs of being Aes Sedai. I also think it's pure folly to allow a newly raised Sister to just run off into the world on her own! Make her work for her 1000 crowns a year, at least for a while. Right now there doesn't seem to be a reason for AS to exist beyond vague Ajah purposes that certainly don't keep members busy all year! And I find it rather amazing that the Amyrlin or the Hall don't have a clue where over 1/3 of living AS currently are! Think about it, if you were the CEO of an organization wouldn't you want to know where each of your employees was located and what they were doing?

Part of why I would want to make this change is because AS should rid themselves of their "of a different flesh" mentality. It's the core reason people don't trust them now.

This pretty much sounds like what would happen to the White Tower if they used your plan, daurius_sedai. Sorry dude, I like almost everything you post here, and your plan does sound good...

I agree, there is no way this plan would ever work the way AS are today. I'm never meant this post to be "realistic", just a little diversion into "how would you reinvent the AS" Seanchan AS broke into a bunch of little factions that became rivals for political power. Which is the key IMO, AS need to stop being "Servants of Themselves" if they want to survive.
