I read the other posts and they're perfectly right, many names are duplicated or changed slightly, but imagine if we had two semi-main-ish characters in WoT with the same name. It's hard enough to keep all the characters straight, then RJ would have to keep qualifying which one, it would be crazy confusing. He did the right thing with his similar names. It's realistic without making for a truly confusing read.
I always say, if you must mount the gallows, give a jest to the crowd, a coin to the hangman, and make the drop with a smile on your lips. ~Birgitte
