The Ravens, particularly - Edit 1

Before modification by CatherineSedai at 20/07/2010 07:29:59 AM

"Mat spoke strange words she almost understood - the Old Tongue, she thought - and two ravens alighted on his shoulders, claws sinking through his coat into the flesh beneath."

My line of thought and question are actually around the last one, specifically the reference to the ravens sinking their claws into the flesh of his shoulders. Is this just another reference to the marriage? Or something more, something deeper?

The Seekers for Truth have ravens tattooed on their shoulders...
Might this mean that Matt will become a Seeker? Or that his fate is tied up with a Seeker? Like, Almurat Mor, the one who has been actively following Matt's group since The Shadow Rising?

What do you think the prophecy means and how do you think the story line with the Seeker, Almurat Mor, will play out?

In the novels it mentions that anyone marked with the Raven tattoos is property of the Crystal Throne for life.

The Shadow Rising: Hidden Faces

"To wear the ravens was to be the property of the Imperial family. There was an old story of a fool young lord and lady who had themselves tattooed while drunk, some three hundred years gone. When the then Empress learned of it, she had them brought to the Court of the Nine Moons and set to scrubbing floors. This fellow might be one of their descendants. The mark of the raven was forever."

I do not think that this indicated Mat will become a Seeker, nor does it necessarily mean that he will get tied up with one. I assumed that that particular vision of Min's was just another reference to Mat and Tuon marrying. Property of the Impreial family for life... That or perhaps Tuon actually has him marked as such. His new Seanchan title is Prince of Ravens... maybe he has to have the tattoos or something. /shrug
