Flinn was the first man Taim tested, I think his face would stick out. Not to mention Taim knows that Flinn is with Rand and therefore would likely be guarding Rand as he attempts to cleanse the Source. But it's not until Flinn attacks that Demandred realizes that Flinn is an Asha'man.
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
