Rand essentially figured out how the Aes Sedai in that group separated the taint from saidin to purify it. Which is sort of interesting if you remember RJ's concept of the cycle of time and how communication works - if Lews Therin had agreed to Latra Posaes' plan at a different moment, and saved the Access Keys and THEN went to Seal the Dark One, this group of Aes Sedai could have used the Choedan Kal to remove the taint from saidin.

Maybe, not sure I agree. Remember that while the Choedan Kal were an important component of the cleansing, Shadar Logoth was the other component. And Shadar Logoth did not yet exist in AoL.

I personally believe that you are right in that what Rand did when he siphoned the taint away from Saidin was indeed much the same as what the ancient AS who made the eye did. However, Rand could just direct the siphoned taint into SL, where the opposing evil would destroy it and be destroyed it turn. The ancient AS had no such place. So what were they supposed to do with the taint they siphoned away from the eye? Just dump it somewhere and hope it did not turn the entire world/universe into a blight? I doubt they would risk it.

I think it is more likely that the creators of the Eye did what Rand did, but rather than dumping the taint into SL (which they did not have), they instead absorbed the siphoned pure taint into their own bodies. We know that when male channelers die, the taint they have absorbed does not manifest from their bodies, while the taint Rand siphoned did (the black dome). So the taint is essentially used up in the process of corrupting the human body. So taking the siphoned taint into themselves would have been a good way for the makers of the Eye to get rid of taint for good.

However absorbing such great quantities of what would essentially be pure taint with no OP in it to dilute it was likely so toxic that the makers of the Eye died more or less instantly. However thanks to their sacrifice, Rand had a pool of pure saidin, and no part of the siphoned taint was let loose on the physical world.
