The Dark One might have been testing his commitment to the cause rAndy aL Send a noteboard - 16/08/2010 11:09:59 AM
In the AoL, balefire was about the only thing the Forsaken feared to do, so it would be a good request to test out his "leadership" (follow my orders even when you don't like them) capabilities.

There's not much info to go on, but here's what I have:

- It's something that only Demandred can do, since he is the only FS who we know was explicitly asked to use it. Why would he be asked over anyone else?

Was he? We don't know what the DO said to the other Forsaken.

- We also know that it was very important. The DO doesn't like Balefire, but he asks Demandred to use it anyway. There was some need to reach back in time and undo something.

We were never told whether the DO likes Balefire or not. The Forsaken don't like it, but I don't think the DO cares.

- This would likely have occurred around the time of TFoH, LoC and ACoS given the time frame of Demandred's orders.

- Demandred knows exactly how dangerous this task could be - despite being in the very heart of Shayol Ghul, he still hesitates for a moment after hearing the order.

He hadn't been given a specific task then, or we would have heard it too.

- He then is told "Who will die and who will live." So murder may be part of this.

Balefire can be used for something else?

There's a lot of speculation over not very much information. I don't think any specific uses of balefire will turn out to be important.
