So even if the entire colony is wiped out, the purpose of going there wasn't to find a thriving colony. The purpose was to find a place where the planet isn't turning into a ball of lava due to mad hordes of male channelers.

So even if they found the place deserted, at least they would have a safe, quiet place to rebuild their civilization from scratch - and with all the firsthand knowledge of the Age of Legends still with them.


We know that even during the WOP they were already losing the capacity to make ter'angreal ... note that Callandor was flawed due to manufacturing errors. Sure they could have fled to another planet and been safe, but even with AOL knowledge they would still not have the ability to rebuild everything since by the time the Breaking really got going a lot of knowledge was lost.
