Those belong in the tower for investigation and inventory. As far as knowing about versus knowing how to weave - read it how you want. I just told you that that was how I read it. I don't think Jordan is trying to be tricky when it comes to Cadsuane. She is the oldest Aes Sedai living, possibly one of the most powerful, and she clearly knows things other Aes Sedai don't; I took balefire as being one of them. *shrugs*
But wine was the great assassin of both tradition and propriety...
