very cool survey! newyorkersedai Send a noteboard - 01/09/2010 12:57:58 AM
1. Do you pay attention to the real world correlations to the randland countries?

A little. I imagine Cairhienin are a little like new yorkers, but mixed with the Swiss, and probably one or two other European nations.

2. Have you ever wondered why all Seanchan seem to be described as having a drawling accent, even though they're from all over a second continent, and so should have multiple accents?

I figure they all have sort of a drawl in trying Randland-ese, but you make a good point. I largely forgot about how different the Seanchan territories are from one another, until the introduction of that weird little cannibal who follows the general around...

3. If you have to be Cairhienin or Domani, which would you be, and why?

Domani, if only to be away from that ridiculous game of houses that could get you or your wife/girl/kid killed. Bonus points for not being hated by the best fighters in the world (aiel).

4. Of the currently existing Borderlands, which would you most enjoy being a citizen of?

Andor is my #1 pick; Murandy sounds nice, but I remembered how nasty Lugard treats their women...

5. Of the historic nations (the 10 nations or any of the other fallen nations), which would you be from?

If not Coremanda (for the great dances a man could have with Sea Folk women), then definitely Manetheren.

6. If you had to be from Tear or Illian, which would you be from?

Illian. The rule sounds fairly easy, they don't hate AS, and the fish are probably great.

7. You are a man (just for this question) and have to marry a woman from WoT. Which nation would you go wife-hunting in?

Fortunately, I am a man. I'd either chose Andor or Saldaea. I'd be open to an Aiel woman who could learn not to murder or cut me.

8. As a non-channeling woman, would you prefer to live in Tar Valon or Amadicia?

Tar Valon all the way. Women get good respect in a city full of AS.

9. Would you prefer to be from part of the globe unclaimed by any country (like the Caralain Grass) or from a part that's claimed, but never sees their monarch (the Two Rivers)?

Never sees the monarch. It's good to have an option for support if things go south.

10. What is your theory on the origin of the Seafolk? Are they connected to dai'shain aiel from the AoL, or are they simply the descendants of the lucky people who were able to get to a boat during the Breaking?

The second one.

11. Why do you think Seanchan Ogier who serve in the Empress's Deathwatch Guards are called "Gardeners?"

Because they might have actually tended to trees and such before Jr. Hawkwing filled the area with war and conquest. Or because they "pull out the weeds" of men and women who don't want some ever-living Empress.

12. How many Malkieri do you expect to answer Nynaeve's call?

15,000+ (not including all the other Borderlanders who will doubtless join in)

13. What do you think of the Andoran system of Royalty that determines fitness to rule by connection to one common ancestor?

It's fine, so long as the nobles don't bicker over ill-treatment, refuse to believe it was at the hand of the Forsaken even though TG is clearly coming, and so long as the actual selection of Elayne could take 1-1 1/2 books instead of 3 or 4.

That's it for now.

Thank you so much for the rocking survey!
