Bah. Not really. Digital_Eon Send a noteboard - 11/09/2009 03:56:05 AM

She and Egwene are mentioned as being the same height in EotW, Egwene is often cited as short, and Min (who is never cited as being particularly tall) described Nynaeve to Rand as shorter than Min herself.

And I imagined her the same way early on. It was not until I got my own copy of EotW (after owning books 3 & 4) and picked that description up on the re-read that I realized that she was the same size as Egwene, and was shorter than Elayne.

The WoT FAQ gives Nynaeve heights of 5'4 and 5'5 (the latter being the same as Egwene's in the same list). While not tall, neither are technically "short", either, at least not by our world's standards. It's actually the average (or above average!) height here.

Of course, that IS our world and not theirs, so maybe everyone in Randland is insanely tall.

...or RJ never really described the heights accurately.

But still, as a person genuinely below average in height, I find it hard to believe that Nynaeve, whether she's of either height, would truly be "short" except in comparison to, like, an Aiel.

I consider that short. Of course, the shortest woman in my immediate family is 5'7" - 11/09/2009 04:10:43 AM 649 Views

I agree with you. 5'4 is short. Average would be around 5'5/5'6. - 11/09/2009 05:22:18 PM 496 Views
