which I don't think is necessarily true, that still doesn't mean both sides (light and shadow) wouldn't be better off without them. If anything they probably help the Shadow slightly by perverting the definition of a 'darkfriend' but still they do remind people that darkfriends exist at least.
As far as other contenders go.. how about the Illuminators (largely destroyed now, but Aludra's plans could still be very useful), or the Band of the Red Hand (technically they are only loyal to Mat),
When Mat gets the ball rolling for BOTH, he does so in the name of Rand. And the Illuminators are an example of not-good organizations, since they spent how many centuries living apart, engaging in thuggish behavior to maintain their monopoly on the fireworks industry and refusing to cooperate with anyone for any reason but their own enrichment. Pedron Niall did not believe that they would even be willing to accomodate the rulers of a nation that took them in when they fled Tarabon. Only Aludra saw the possibilities of a weapon, and the Illuminators needed to be smashed in order to allow her the freedom to carry such plans out.
or, frankly, even the Kin are more useful than the Whitecloaks.
But yeah, Aes Sedai are probably just as bad, only in different ways.
The Kin are only useful for the little Healing they give in Ebou Dar, and spend much more energy on their futile efforts to stay hidden and serve as a judas goat to help the Tower maintain their unjust monopoly of the One Power. Unlike most other groups, at least the Children of the Light do not outlaw other people doing their work too!
But yeah, Aes Sedai are probably just as bad, only in different ways.
