She was strong, that's all Aes Sedai need. Rurouni_Kenshin Send a noteboard - 30/09/2010 08:26:17 AM
She hates men and is uptight. She lacks a sense of humor. Seems like a perfect red to me . . . .

I seem to recall Moiraine saying that Elaida hates men... but from her PoVs and her actions in the series, I don't see much proof of it.

Uptight and lacking a sense of humor describes most Aes Sedai. Try again. ;)

I've always been under the impression that she was involved in the illegal gentling of male channelers, but I don't have anything to back that up except my (possibly faulty) memory. I think there might be something mentioned subtly in one of her chats with Alviarin, when Alviarin says something like "that's a dangerous number to say out loud."

I think since Elaida doesn't like anyone, you could say she doesn't like men :)

The Extra Bit

That had been Toveine’s life these past twenty years. And Elaida had slipped through the cracks uncaught, danced her way to the Amyrlin Seat that Toveine had once dreamed of for herself. No, she was not grateful. But she had learned to wait her chance.

I wonder how involved Elaida could have been, really. She was, at best, a sister for two or three years when the vileness began. I wouldn't think she would be able to get that involved, or be influential enough to merit the same kind of punishment Toveine received considering Toveine was a Sitter during the vileness (and so has to be at least 100 years older than Elaida).

and she clearly doesn't hate all men...as some Reds do ... or at least she's not rabid about it... she seemingly LIKED Master Gill.

Summond

"You should know, Daughter," the Amyrlin said dryly, "that Elaida harms no one except those she considers dangerous. Darkfriends, or those poor fool men who try to channel the One Power. Or one who threatens Tar Valon. Everyone else who isn't Aes Sedai might as well be pieces on a stones board as far as she is concerned. Luckily for him, the innkeeper, one Master Gill as I remember, apparently thinks much of Aes Sedai, and so answered her questions to her satisfaction. Elaida actually spoke well of him. But she spoke more of the young man you took away with you. More dangerous than any man since Artur Hawkwing, she said. She has the Foretelling sometimes, you know, and her words carried weight with the Hall."

So she's not an indiscriminate man-hater. :|

Being a lesbian (as evidenced by her relationship with Medani) doesn't make her a man hater either!

I totally agree, though I wouldn't say she is necessarily a lesbian. She could be bisexual, or a situational lesbian.

She was strong, that's all Aes Sedai need to be influential.
When the Wolf King carries the hammer, thus are the final days known. When the fox marries the raven, and the trumpets of battle are blown.
