I always wondered why the Bowl of Winds was supposed to bind the rebels to Rand in the first place; it only had a semi-binding effect because Elayne lied about it needing men, when it didn't. (iirc, only women were in the circle to use it, which is when the AS made their (first) crappy deal with the Sea Folk to get their help to use it. One of the properties of the bowl was that it channeled/used saidin by itself even though only women were channeling into it.)
Makes me wonder how the Bowl would have bound the rebels to Rand without Elayne's lie, unless I just missed something.

Yes, I wondered the same thing. How was the Bowl supposed to help bind the rebel AS to Rand? Other than the alleged need for saidin.
