Rand appears able to tell Darkfriends on sight now. Also, when he comes before the hall, they have a full circle of 13 shielding him, but Egwene and the other Aes Sedai realize that they're no longer a match for him and if he wants to break the shield, there's nothing they can do to stop him.

Remember back in Book 4, when Egwene described her and Elayne as kittens compared to a lion when comparing their power to Rand? That's how Rand's power is to pretty much everyone else at this point. He walks freely into the tower, because he knows there's nothing that the Aes Sedai can do to him.

The reason I feel he should have been circumspect is that DF's may report his plan to the Shadow. Though maybe he didn't care since he would be able to tell if they were DF.

And is Egwene one of the people shielding him? That seems weird to me.

Also, what does Cadsuane have to say about Egwene disagreeing with Rand's plan? If she supports it, isn't she trying to slap Egwene down? She has not cared about Amyrlins before...


No, she's not shielding him. The Aes Sedai are already shielding him before he even arrives. He shows up at the gates of Tar Valon and introduces himself and I think that's when Aes Sedai shield him. Apparently two full circles of 13 are standing guard.

Cadsuane doesn't seem much interested in Egwene.


Also, like I said, I don't think Rand is actually opposed to what Egwene is doing. I think he announced his plan to break the seals in the brusque, non-explanatory way that he did specifically to get this reaction out of her.
