I always thought the method of getting rid of the gholam was out, he melts weaves that touch him, how can he pass through a gateway?
But after some thinking I realized there is precedent. Mat can travel through gateways with his Foxhead on, which has the same effect as the gholam, so the gholam must also be able to pass through gateways.
I see it now, but was disappointed when it happened, thinking Sanderson changed the rules.
RJ specifically addressed this issue. He said that once a gateway is open, the weaves are only around the rim. Within the gateway, there is just here becoming there(either through making it so similar that it is the same, or by boring a hole with no space between, depending on if male or female). The same would be true for a skimming hole. You open a hole to the skimming place, wherever that is, but the actual hole is just the place where here becomes the skimming place. The only weaves are around the hole. So if they had tried to cut golem in half with the edges of a gateway, the weaves would have gone away, but he could go through one fine(apparently gateways don't kill golem like other shadowspawn though).
