I think a lot of the rules for darkspawn don't really apply to gholams, just like with the myrddraal.
Please elaborate.
So far as I know, the only real rule as such was that they couldn't pass through a gateway. What rules do not apply to myrddraal, gholam, or any other? And if there are a multitude of rules that don't apply to a multitude of shadowspawn, that seems to hardly be a rule toward shadowspawn at all.
