Mat's answer from the Snakes was that he would give up half of the light of the world to save the world. Mat's deal with the Foxes was to exchange his eye for Moiraine /and/ the angreal. That may indicate that it's not just Moiraine (and potentially her knowledge) that's important to the Last Battle. The angreal itself may have a role to play.
