It became clear to me that Thom loved her when he became obsessed with saving her. However. I (like Mat) did not see it happen.
Was it there and I missed it, or .. you know, was it not there?
Having said that, Deadsy is awesome for her post.
Personally, I believed Lan and Nynaeve, but the thing is, given how WoT relationships play out, there's a whole lot of the middle missing.
The stuff Deadsy pointed out, and the stuff from EotW is basically Point A. You don't go from that to pledging everlasting love (which our WoT characters basically do). Point B (making memories with said person on an intimate level) is sorely missing.
IMO Rand/Elayne, Egwene/Gawyn, and to an extent Rand/Min are the worst offenders while Perrin/Faile, Siuan/Bryne, and Rand/Aviendha are the least.
