Given that no weaves for creating a gateway were detected, that could suggest she's been fetched by a man who can channel (perhaps for turning) or even a Myrrdraal. It may not be coincidence that we hear about Naeff's madness and Myrrdraal lurking in shadows at around the same time and place.
Naeff imagined those Myrddraal - that's what his madness was about!
The lack of a gateway rather suggests Alanna slipped away discreetely, because she was forewarned by Verin there were BA in the group in Tear and near Rand. She did channel, but not enough for a gateway. Had she woven a gateway in her room, she would have raised attention to her departure, and weave residues can be read.
I think Alanna used saidar only to disguise her departure somehow, perhaps even just to make sure she wasn't heard leaving the room. She waited to be away from the AS in the Stone to open a gateway and flee.
SG is north of Arafel but still a long way from there. I'm pretty sure Rand could tell the difference betwen Alanna being as far north as SG and just as far north as the Borderlands through the bond. He could not "casually" - she's too far for him to sense something precise, but if he concentrated to judge her position he could, and he was asked about Alanna and did just that.
