I've theorized before (with no evidence, admittedly) that the DO was once human (many spins of the wheel ago). Perhaps Rand will not just Seal the Bore, but will actually kill him, only for Fain to become the latest DO equivalent. He certainly has the malice/insanity/control-freak/hate factors.

In fact, while it was previously clear why the SL evil was different from the DO's evil, it's becoming less and less clear the more Fain has changed.
