Re: Egwene's Style, where did it come from and how does it reflect on her? Zeratul Send a noteboard - 27/12/2010 10:39:23 AM
For Siuan, her style often has her dropping a hammer on anyone involved in any kind of "mistake" - when the Wonder Girls return from a kidnapping, they are punished unfairly. They are criticized for obeying orders that they had no right to disobey (leaving the Tower with Liandrin). Although Siuan isn't cruel, she must maintain order - so she explains to the Wonder Girls that (a) their punishment is necessary, if unjustified, and (b) Siuan needs to use them, and will do so because they can do what she needs.

Actually the Supergirls punishment was fair and pretty mild overall. Liandrin didn't order them to leave, she asked them if they wanted to come with her to help Rand and co and they agreed. They run away, no doubt about that. Running away from the Tower is a very serious misdemeanour for a novice, a bit less for an Accepted, but still pretty serious. They got away with one visit to Sheriam's study and a few days of scrubbing pots.

Even if Liandrin had ordered them, IIRC only the Amirlyn and the Mistress of Novices has the power to order or allow novices and Accepted to leave Tar Valon. So they could've refused.

Anyway, if we are talking about who Egwene learned from, let's not forget her mother, who was one of the leaders of Women's Circle. She was much more of an influence on her than her father IMO. And from the bits we've seen about her, she used subtlety to get what she wanted much more than Nynaeve.
