Question about Rand and Lanfear's battle before Moiraine's game-saving tackle, and other ?s _Big_Easy_ Send a noteboard - 04/02/2011 01:05:56 AM
I just returned this book to the library, so I'll have to [closely] paraphrase, but when Rand and Lanfear are fighting,
Rand "channels a club of Air to hit her in the head" and she slices his weave.

This seems a bit improbable to me, given that women are unable to even sense that a male has embraced the Source,
never even minding the fact that they can't see each other's weaves.

I know if she knows where the weave is, she can slice it without seeing it [she tells Rand that herself],
but I find it very unlikely she would KNOW a club of Air was going to be swung at her head, when there would be no warning, as there would be with a ball of fire or whatnot, where you could see it.

I know sometimes objects made with Air appear silvery-blue, but most times the Air weaves we "see" are invisible, e.g. bonds woven of air to hold people.

I dunno, that just kind of bugged me. I know it doesn't do the plot advancement much good if Rand knocks her out; Mo doesn't get to get stuck in Finnland, etc. But it just strikes me as implausible.

While I've got you here, did anyone find it strange the Wise One's had such a precise dream about the exact date everyone would show up at Rhuidean from Tear?
How did Moiraine know it was Sammael ruling in Illian, when from her own PoV we know she knows almost nothing about most of the Forsaken.
How did she know it was Be'lal in Tear?

I had others I had thought of, but they apparently leaked outta mah head when I wasn't paying attention...

Gestures and Weaves go hand in hand and since flows originate from the body you can logically - 05/02/2011 05:45:00 PM 1037 Views
In general, only third age Aes Sedai gesture when they weave - it's a block imposed by training. - 07/02/2011 06:20:33 PM 1107 Views
