I mean, sure, I'd noticed a few of the big things, like the "Sword" in the "Stone" and Artur Hawkwing, but it wasn't until this semester, when I took my capstone course on Sir Thomas Mallory and King Arthur lit, that I realized just how much is in there.

Seriously. Gawyn, Galad, Morgase, Tar Valon, Sa'angreal, the list goes on. I'm sure I'm coming late to the party here, and some of you more well-read people have discussed this in depth long ago...but I was just astounded by the parallels.

Much of the core themes of the series and its symbolism comes from the arthurian tradition (less from the christian version, more from the earlier Welsh/Celtic roots) as well.

Right; I've got a bad habit of ascribing that Foretelling to Alivia rather than Nicola. - 15/05/2011 06:01:53 PM 6493 Views
Rand's "death" might serve to slap some sense into the senseless, arrogant, power-mongers... - 16/05/2011 08:09:26 PM 649 Views
