This is entirely subjective and may not be representative of women in general, but the whole way Galad was portrayed felt wrong to me. It was like a man describing a stunningly gorgeous woman who happened to be a man.
I'm not saying that women aren't attracted to looks, of course we are, but it's not as important to us as I think it is to guys. Confidence, charisma and personality are moreso. A guy with 'ugly' features can still be attractive to women if he has those qualities. And what jarred with me was the fact that all the women who encountered Galad were swooning over him based on looks alone.
I would have a much easier time believing the universal attractiveness of someone like Rahvin - described as handsome and commanding - or even Logain, confident and dangerous, than I would Galad, who's just pretty.

Because unless you're like Birghitte and like ugly youre going to be atracted to what ammounts to the whole package. A incredible face is an incredible face even if you aren't used to those features. I will say there are "racial" features that might come into play but that's all a matter of exposure and even then those "features" can have a perfect representation. the perfect hawknose is just as good as the perfect button nose. clear complexion is clear complexion. So, this business of Galad being described as so beautiful that women swoon over him at every turn. Quite literally, if they're female and not related to him, we're told that his smile will put butterflies in their stomachs, that they'll find yourself smiling back, helplessly. When he's in the room, they're half-hypnotised, they can't look away, other men fade into the background. Innocent country girls are dazzled. Happily married women have thoughts they shouldn't. He is just that good-looking.
Um, what? Do men like this actually exist? (or women, for that matter?) Surely no one is universally attractive, as Galad is described as being? Have you ever encountered anyone like this? What was RJ trying to achieve with it?
