It looks like Gandalf's weave when he tries to scare the living S out of Frodo, by darkening the room and seeming to loom.
I would think that it was also partly used by Moiraine at Baerlon, and by some other AS at a certain point. Verin trying to menace the room of frightened girls after Rand was bonded? I think it's described the room darkens and seems smaller. The WT embassy coming in the room for the first time trying to impress Rand and failing utterly and hilariously?

Also, it sounds like soothing and rioting in Mistborn. What about the general spells performed by the two main mages in the last battle of Tigana? I think it was described as refreshing your own army, while at the same time draining the other. One mage would square off against another and they would both do the same thing at maximum capacity and this would help their armies.

And yes: it would be very useful in battle. Or during a lot of other moments in your life...
