Was the "need"-related smoking gun ever figured out?

I recall that when Egwene or Elayne tried to use need to find something in Tel'Aran'Rhiod, they came to a hidden storage room in the White Tower that was dusty and sealed off. The description of the room is not similar to the one that houses the Oath Rod, the seals or the angreal collection. It seems that there is something in this room that they really do need but they never followed up on it, as far as I can recall.
