It's not like the last book of a best-selling series needs that x-mas sales's boost,.. It will sell just as well in January as it would have in November/december, or mid July.

It's not a good choice for a gift except for fans of the series who put it on their list. It's rather the books people make their choice over in store (street or online) for friends/families that really benefit from this. No one will buy the 14th book of a series on impulse unless they know the person has read the others...and know if the person didn't go and bought it on release day.
